Most women would agree that the emphasis on hair loss is mostly placed on the problems men have with male pattern balding. It doesn’t mean that hair loss is strictly a problem for the men as many women suffer from this as well. It has been reported about two thirds of the female population has suffered some type of hair loss at some point in their life.

One major difference between hair loss in men and women is that very seldom does it result in total baldness in the woman. That doesn’t make it any less traumatic. Women who are suffering from even thinning hair find it quite stressful.

There are various causes for hair loss and some vary more so in women than the men.

For example, the female hormone estrogen can affect the hair. It’s just that scientists are just not quite sure how this works. It would seem though that estrogen does play a part in the treatment of hair loss, as part of a treatment may be an oral topical application of this hormone. Anyone using any type of hormones for the treatment of hair loss must be very cautious. Hormones can have a devastating affect on the body if they are out of control.

A quite common but troublesome cause of hair loss is Alopecia Areata. This is caused from an immune problem. The tell tale signs of hair loss from this cause is it will vary in degrees. It will be very noticeable and aggressive with some, and be hardly evident in others apart from some slight thinning. It quite often will appear as lost hair in small round patches. When it is in small groups like this quite often various treatments will correct the problem.

When alopecia areata is severe, it can literally cause hair loss over the entire body. It attacks both genders equally and is famous for afflicting children and younger adults. Being as it’s an immune disorder then it takes treatments that address that issue to be effective. It will depend on the age of the patient as to what treatment is advised. The unfortunate part is patients that have suffered total hair loss meaning their scalp and body will never achieve 100% regrowth. Those that have mild attacks often seem to have must better results.

Hair loss no matter what the cause or the gender must be approached sensibly. In the case of women hair, loss and thinning could be caused from something as simple as over treating or being too harsh with the hair. Once these causes are eliminated most often, the hair will restore itself.
